What about craps tournaments?
It’s great to have you [Blackjack Confidential] back! Question: Will you be publishing results of the Las Vegas Hilton’s craps tournaments?
TKS
We are attempting to get results of all tournaments – from blackjack to slots to craps. Keep an eye on our winners’ pages.

Snow in Las Vegas?
I don’t know if anything surprises me anymore. Like snow in Las Vegas! The snow started to fall [Dec. 17] and just wouldn’t stop, so I ran outside and took some pictures [see above photo]. I hope the weather improves soon. Might have to go to Arizona for a few days to escape the snow.

Eastside Cannery problems
The newly-opened Eastside Cannery in Las Vegas botched things up big time with their Players C.A.N. Club. Long after the Grand Opening, lines of people had waited for an hour or more before they could get a players card. Many people simply gave up, grumbling and saying they were headed back down the street, possibly to Sam’s Town.
DISGUSTED
Eastside Cannery: $3 games
The Eastside Cannery on the Boulder Strip has $3 blackjack games ... Thanks, but no thanks! The low-stake games I saw paid only 6:5 [odds] or even-money on bets under $5.

Three cheers for Glen Witmer!
I know this isn’t blackjack tournament news, but longtime blackjack tournament player and Canadian Glen Witmer won $1.2 million (U.S.) recently in a poker tournament at Fallsview Casino [in Niagara Falls, Canada]. Glen is well-known to the old blackjack tournament community, having won numerous tournaments (Stardust, Harrah’s, etc.). Glen’s poker win represents a very successful cross-over from blackjack to poker. He is still very active in tournament blackjack and plays in monthly blackjack tournaments at Fallsview Casino.
By the way, it’s very nice to have you back!

Remembering Connie Haines
A word of appreciation to Connie Olsen for her thoughtful remembrance of the late singer, Connie Haines. I grew to appreciate Ms. Haines late in life and wish I could have seen her perform in person during her prime.

Thank you, Connie Olsen
That was sure an excellent article Connie [Olsen] wrote about Connie Haines. Enjoyed reading it ... I couldn’t believe that her mother is 109 years old and still alive. By the way, that’s a neat little advertisement you have on the page, the one that keeps jumping out of the page.

Rhonda Fleming responds
Ms. [Rhonda] Fleming thought you [Connie Olsen] did a beautiful job and created a lovely tribute to her dear friend, Connie Haines ... Warmest best wishes and many thanks for the story about her good friend ... a very special person who touched many hearts and lives.

Foxwoods MGM rules
I played at the new Foxwoods MGM casino [in Ledyard, Conn.] recently and found blackjack games with conflicting rules. At one blackjack table, the dealer hit soft 17; at another blackjack table, the dealer stood on soft 17. I asked a floor person what was going on and he said the casino was complying with several customer requests. You mean, customers actually asked to have blackjack dealers hit soft 17? I find this hard to believe.

A former reader
Thanks for coming back. I always enjoyed your book. I think you will also be OK on the Internet. My interest is in the blackjack tournaments. I hope you will give the results.

How to get a room
Some of your former Blackjack Confidential Magazine readers might be interested in how to get a room at Foxwoods Resort & Casino in Ledyard, Conn., even when you are told all the rooms have been booked. At Foxwoods, there are times when you can’t get a room even if you are willing to pay cash for a $400-a-night holiday weekend rack rate. However, if you call the Bingo Room, pre-register for a featured bingo event, in this case the Firecracker at $55, they will get you one of their “set aside” rooms for $125 a night. Who would think that the Bingo Room would have a block of rooms at their disposal? This has to be one of the best kept secrets at Foxwoods. And if things go bad at the blackjack tables, you can always go sit in the bingo room until things get better.

A magazine in print?
I’m very happy to see you back in business and I would love to see you come out with new issues of your magazine in print. Make sure I’m among the first to know.

Poor conditions everywhere
We just returned from Las Vegas, where we stayed at the Orleans (and Alice entered a slot tournament). The first three places paid $2,500, $750 and $500. One hundred places were paid and Alice came in 95th for $50. We were there three days for $100, which included the tournament.
You are quite right about the poor blackjack conditions everywhere. The casinos get away with it because the majority of players do not know the difference between a good game and a bad game.
We look forward to seeing more of your Internet magazine. We have really missed Blackjack Confidential Magazine for the last four years.
